Lonely Birthday Video January Twenty Fifth is a video about a song from the Kingdom of Thailand. The
latter part of the song is in English.
Thailand is a country in South East
Asia that was never colonized by a European power even though
Thailand gave up territories to the French in 1867 and the British in
1893. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to reach Thailand in
1511. Thailand's name in Thai language means “The Land Of The
Thailand's King Rama IX is the world's longest reigning
monarch since becoming King in June 1946.
The country used to be called Siam and
the name was changed to Thailand in 1939. This is the land where the
Siamese cats originated. History records more than twenty breeds of Siamese cats but
now only a few breeds survive.
Thailand is also the home of the King
Cobra which can grow to be 18 feet long and the reticulated python
which can grow to be a little more than 30 feet long. Thailand also
has monitor lizards and grows a lot of orchids – what an exotic
place! About one tenth of all the world's animal and bird species
live in Thailand! It is the home of the mudskipper, which is a fish
that spends most of it's time outside water!
Thailand has a land area of about
198,115 square miles and a population of about seventy million
people. It is called the land of smiles but the people of Thailand
smile for several other reasons besides happiness.
In general they
are people that live in considerable harmony. Most Thais live in
extended families. About 95% of the citizens of Thailand are
Buddhists. Thailand is the home of the world's largest gold Buddha,
which is nearly ten feet tall, is solid gold and weighs five tons.
Thailand is a neighbor or Myanmar,
Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. More tourists visit Bangkok than London
– about 16 million every year.
