Loneliness and depression, which do you have? Do you have both, or just one or the other? It would be nice to find out, wouldn't it?
I would have liked to say that you can take tests to find out whether you are suffering from loneliness or from depression. I cannot say that because testing for depression needs to be done by medical professionals.
As far as loneliness is concerned...
...a twenty question test was devised at UCLA in the 1970's. It is called the UCLA Loneliness Scale Test. It was revised in 1980 and the latest version became available in 1996. The latest version contains only ten questions. You can take the test at this website: http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/loneliness.htm
Just answer the ten questions very honestly. Then click on the 'Score my Loneliness Quiz' button and you will get to a web page which will tell you if loneliness is a problem for you or not. At the bottom of the scoring key, it says, 'This is not a diagnosis tool'.
The difficulty lies in finding out...
...whether you are suffering from depression or not. You need professional medical help to get that answer.
Since I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or medical doctor, I
cannot show you how to get that answer since I do not and cannot provide
medical advice. All the information on this web page and this web site
is for informational purposes only.
This information cannot be
used as a substitute for professional medical advice. Do not ignore
professional medical advice because of some information you find out on
this website or on the websites recommended here.
If you are having an emergency dial 911 ( in USA) or the emergency number at your location.
With the clarification of...
...the three paragraphs above, you can go to this website - http://www.webmd.com/. That website asks you a few questions as a test for depression. However, your purpose of going to website is somewhat different from just taking the test - it is to get the report at the end of the test.
Here is how to make the best use of the test:
When you take the test, answer the questions with complete honesty. There are only about twenty five questions, including the multiple box questions.
After going through approximately seventeen screens, you see two buttons. One button is 'PRINT MY REPORT'. The other button is 'PRINT DOCTOR'S REPORT'. Printing out your report by clicking PRINT MY REPORT is your real purpose for visiting that website.
Your report will provide you with...
...excellent information about depression and also provide you with information about how you can be a good patient and participate in your recovery from depression if you have it.
Go ahead and also click on PRINT DOCTOR'S REPORT. That report is interesting reading.
So while you cannot go...
...take a test for depression on the internet, you can at least get better informed about depression. One connection between loneliness and depression is that when loneliness continues for a while it can cause depression.
