Lonely Birthday Video January Twenty Second is a video about a song from Tokelau, a territory of New Zealand in the South Pacific. Tokelau, formerly known as the Union Islands, is comprised of three islands, Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo.

The total land area of the three islands is about 4 square miles and the total population is around 1400 people. It has the smallest economy in the world.

There are many fascinating aspects of Tokelau. When you look at the islands from the air, you can see that there is sea around the islands and lagoons within the islands.

I was very surprised when I saw the islands in a video for the first time. All three islands are like that. Actually, each one is a set of islets surrounding a lagoon.

Tokelau is 360 miles north of Samoa. The capital of Tokelau rotates between the three islands every year. The whole population of Tokelau lives in three villages. There is a school and a hospital on each island.

How is that for a small country? Tokelauans must be either very cooperative or very laid back. I noticed that their music is at a very slow and easy pace. Lonely Birthday Video January Twenty Second is about a really nice song. Even though the economy of Tokelau doesn't produce much, Tokelauans have a life expectancy of 69 years. It must be the lack of stress.

In 1863, almost all their able bodied men were taken by slave traders. Most of those men from Tokelau died and only a few returned.

Immigrants who were Polynesian, American, French, German, Portuguese, and Scottish caused the islands to be repopulated. And yet this country of about 1500 people has such a vibrant Polynesian culture! There may be more than 1500 videos about Tokelau on Youtube!

In 1877, the United Kingdom claimed jurisdiction over all unclaimed Pacific Islands. Thus Tokelau became a protectorate of the UK. In 1922 Tokelauans became British subjects.

In 1926 The British transferred Tokelau to New Zealand. In 2004 New Zealand took steps to turn Tokelau into a self governing state in free association with New Zealand.
