Lonely Birthday Video January Sixteenth

Lonely Birthday Video January Sixteenth is a video about original ripsaw music from the British Overseas Territory of Turks and Caicos. There were some birthday videos but not in Arawakan, the language of the original inhabitants of these islands.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are located just 603 miles south east of Miami. Their neighbors are the Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The weather is temperate, hardly ever going above the mid nineties Fahrenheit. These islands enjoy trade winds and an average of 350 days of sunshine per year. Migrating hump back whales go past these islands from January to April.

Their total land area is about 170 square miles. They have 230 miles of the most beautiful white sand beaches. Their population is about 32000 people and they are visited by nearly 300,000 tourists each year.

Ninety percent of the local population lives in the city of Providenciales. The economy is based on tourism and the financial services industry.

Sea salt accumulates naturally on these islands. In the past, residents built walls in the salt ponds so as to help the salt formation. They sold the salt for great prices and bought the goods they needed on the islands.

In modern times there have been several attempts to turn some of these islands into a New Hong Kong or a Utopia. Stay tuned, the Turks and Caicos Islands may make it to the big time yet.

Of all the seafood that is consumed on these islands, the most interesting is the conch. There is a conch farm on Providenciales and conch is happily consumed by locals and tourists alike.

While the Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory, their currency is the U.S. dollar! Canada has tried to annexe the Turks and Caicos Islands four times and the latest effort was in 2013.

So, for the Sixteenth day of the experiment I have found a great video of music that is native to the islands. The music is created on a common hand saw.

If you find a birthday greeting song from the people of Turks and Caicos, please let me know at Lonely People Champion Facebook Page.

Happy Birthday to you. Here is the Sixteenth video of the experiment:
